Day 1

Following your arrival at Montpellier airport, continue to meet Bruno Andreu, wine maker and son-in-law to the Jany family who have owned Château Condamine Bertrand since 1792. The Château in the foothills of the Cevennes has approximately 40 hectares under cultivation.

Day 2
Minervois & Abbaye de Frontfroide

Visit Château Cabezac winery, a large estate in the Minervois adjoining St Chinian. The wines are beautifully crafted and seductive. Michael Broadbent found them “delicious” and “the sort we like to drink at home – characterful and affordable.” [May issue of Decanter magazine 2011]

See the terroir first before returning to meet the wine maker Melanie Estival to taste a range of wines.

Melanie Estival

This afternoon visit Abbaye de Fontfroide with a focus on the masterful panel paintings by Odilon Redon.

In 1910 Odilon Redon produced two huge panels, Night and Day, to face one another in patron Gustave Fayet’s new library at the Abbey he had purchased just a few years earlier. Enjoy these exquisite art works with a private guide.

Day 3
Saint-Guilhem-Le-Desert & Terrasses du Larzac

Visit the highlights of the Unesco world heritage site of Saint Guilhem-le-Desert, a jewel of Romanseque architecture on the French route to Santiago de Compostela with a private guide.

This afternoon meet wine maker Gavin Crisfield. Gavin was formerly wine maker at La Sauvageonne in Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière, before moving to Les Salces to make his own wines which he terms ‘Burgundian’ at La Traversée.

Gavin has parcels of vines, comprising Cinsault, Carignan, Grenache and Syrah, cultivated organically on distinct soil types (slate, grés, volcanic and chalk). Each variety is vinified separately, with no added yeasts, in concrete egg-shaped tanks, ‘tronconique’ French oak and oval foudre.

Day 4
Roussillon & Jardin de St Adrien

The beautiful property of Clos de Paulilles is located in one of the prettiest coves in the Languedoc and recently acquired by Maison Cazes.

On arrival meet wine maker Edouard Guerin to enjoy a tasting of sweet wines and crus made from Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Lunch is included at Banyuls with wines from the estate.

This afternoon at Servian enjoy a private visit by appointment to the gardens of Daniel and Françoise Malgouyres, whose pretty gardens have been created amid former stone quarries.

Day 5
Pays D’Oc and Carcassonne

Domaine Gayda was founded in 2003 and uses grapes planted locally as well plantations in La Liviniere.

A visit to the state of the art cellar is included with the wine maker Vincent Chansault, before lunch at the estate’s stunning restaurant.

Enjoy a private guided visit of Unesco world heritage site Carcassonne with a focus on the history of the Cathars.
